Blah. If there's one thing I'm always going to think is annoying, it's when a Phantom of the Opera website tells you it's for all types of fans, and you start looking through it and everything besides a few things is ALW, and posters call the 2004 crapfest "the movie". I automatically know I'm going to have trouble relating to anyone to refers to that as "THE movie", but the place in general proves that: no, it will not be for all types of fans. Anyone Leroux-faithful who has done a *little* more than the musical-spellbound, who just read the book once, with their eyes glazed over, to say "I read it", is going to feel a *little* gypped. As will the silent movie fan who has to settle for the occasional glamor-shot of Mary Philbin. As will the Robert Englund fan who... well, g'luck finding anything.

I wish people would just come out and say that their horizons are narrow and they don't really care about anything else. I wish that I had done that if I didn't, because I sure as hell was breathing ALW-fumes and going through the other movies apathetically, maybe commenting once or twice on a scene or image from them that I liked, but it was probably because it may have just appeared extravagant enough for my tastes at the time.

It's a little stuck up, yeah, but I do think there are real Phantom fans are there are fad fans, and frankly if Gerard Butler is really your favorite, YOU'RE MISSING THE POINT. :D Fortunately for you, lots of people miss the point, so you will have company, but that doesn't make you less annoying.

The first detail about Erik is that he's so horrid to look at that his own mother covered his face, he hasn't had any true friends, and he hasn't even had meaningful human contact - THAT is what makes him WHO he is. That's why he's living underground. That's why he acts like a child. That's why he makes promises to Christine that he won't spy on her, but does anyway, because he knows he's too ugly for her to ever want to return to him. It's involved with not everything, but most of what he does.

So when I hear "and it helps that he's not really so bad to look at" about Gerry, and I see him pouting about being a big hunky Scottish man with his shirt hanging open, it doesn't hook up with what he's saying. It makes him look like a conniving psychopath who won't let it go when everybody else has. Grghg. I could go on and on, but I'm probably preaching to the choir. If you're here, you probably read He's There, and if you read HT, it would hardly satisfy the type of fluff and galore that the ALW-fume-intoxicated requires to stop from going "oh, look, a squirrel. Do-de-do-de-do... oh HT? Yeah I read it. Of course, I did, I'm a *~*~*phantom of the opera fan*~*~*~ Yeah, I really appreciated it. ...Want to go see if Google has any naked pictures of Ramin Karimloo?"

'Kay, that'll do it for now. :)

Booyah! But at the sacrifice of my (how ironic) creative writing homework. Hooray, I get to stay up past midnight reading the assignment.

But before I forget, I saw that there were some upcoming meet-ups (at least 4!) at my university. I think you just... write together? I think I might go see what those are all about.
