Just to scare you guys by having this pop up in your friends list...

I have a new favorite movie-phantom! ♥ I've switched to Team Robert... who... rolls his eyes back euphorically when other people's blood splatters into his face.
I can't help it. I like my phantoms homicidal. And he even kills people in a lot of interesting ways. I've watched several versions of The Phantom of the Opera lately (which I probably will review soon as well), but I've been thinking about this guy all day. I even drew him in my notes! I've had this AMV stuck in my head all day too.
I know-- what is up with this; my favorites in the movies being the ones without the most important physical aspect of the Phantom - masks? To give Robert some credit, he has a "mask" of human skin that does not belong to him, covering up his deformities, but honestly, great as some other phantoms have looked in the full get-up, what Robert has more of than them is an interesting and unpredictable personality. And he's well-rounded. Some phantoms just want to disembowel pedophiles and rape Christine (Julian Sands), some phantoms are all about being a sensitive lover albeit with unrequited love (Charles Dance), and others are... well.. you don't really know why they're actually a Phantom but it's cool watching them run around in capes (Claude Rains). But Robert Englund was a murderer second, and totally hung up on Christine first even if his love was psychotic - he killed most always "for her", and had some sensitive moments in between that... kind of made me want her to just get with him already. And I know this sounds nuts, but he was hot in some weird way at random instances, which I cannot explain because I definitely don't find him attractive.
He's also helped me remember to develop my Phantom's evil side some more. I think much of his general-phantom-feel has been inspired by the stage Phantoms for their physical sharpness and accentuated mysteriousness (in fact I remember long before wanting him to actually sing a song from the musical! gkajsdk no), except he's more than that. I do think beyond mask/skin he is darker and has more in common with the horror phantoms than the sensitive ones. Thinking he might be an arsonist and knife-wielder. Just the feeling I get. I won't know completely until later, when he would even feel the need to be violent. Looking forward to it though.
Sighhhh.
